You’ve heard of The Year of the Ox in Chinese mythology, right? Well, my dears, it is now “The Season of the Ox”! OxBlood all of a sudden has become THE color of the season. Call it burgundy, maroon, brownish-redish, whatever you will, but it is hot! So, when I found out that the current Bloggers Do It Better challenge was “OxBlood”, I was stoked!

Honestly, when I think of the changing of the seasons, leaves changing colors, grabbing that pumpkin spiece latte from Starbucks and what epitomizes fall to me, this color definitely fits the bill.  It’s  rich, dramatic, fun and easy to wear and can instantly add a touch of elegance to an outfit, while at the same time being a bit edgy; depending on how you choose to style it.

Here I paired my ASOS oxblood top with a pair of grey slacks, my favorite pair of leopard print heels for a touch funk and edge and went with jeweled and gold accessories. However, this could have just as easily been pair with a pair of boyfriend jeans and heels for a more casual look. I am definitley going to have fun styling this great hue in different ways and adding more pieces to my fall wardrobe!

I couldn’t think of anything more perfect for my first fall outfit post of the year on the blog!

OK, honest time here – this by far is not my best outfit post.  It was gloomy and about to rain, I forgot to charge my camera and then my camera died in the middle of taking pics, so……here is the result! I was hesitant whether or not to even post this “shoot’, but, I couldn’t resist – I had to share my obsession with my absolutely amazing and favorite new pair of leopard print heels! Mark my words, you WILL be seeing these heels pop up very often on the blog!

I can’t get enough of the leopard print trend we have going on right now! Leopard is so fun, chic and easy to style! I formerly was a strictly zebra print-only gal, but, as you can tell from my Instagram feed, I am an official convert! Here I wore my heels with a pair of boyfriend jeans, a statement necklace and blouse; “casual chic”. But, these heels practically pair with everything in my closet. They are easy and fun to dress down (as you see here) but can just as easily pair with a great pencil skirt or pair of slacks for a more formal look!

So, once again, please excuse this particular outfit post. Next time I promise to   1) charge my camera    2)  not shoot when it’s raining !    😉

Just so you know….I’m a Killer! Well, I wear killer stilettos sometimes when I’m feeling daring and a little fierce.  😉   If these aren’t what you’d call killer stilettos, then I don’t know what is, right?  I make no effort to hide the fact that I LOVE heels; I’m definitely not a flats girl. However, when I saw these babies in the store, at first I thought they may be too much even for me to handle (if you can believe that!). Once I tried them on, felt them on my feet and took a few struts (yes, I strut not walk in heels), I knew they had to be mine.

Aside from the ridiculously awesome heel on these little gals, I love the ankle strap and little bow at the ankle; I think it makes them fun and unique. There’s just something about an ankle strap heel that just goes so perfectly with boyfriend jeans.

In other news, it is still freakin’ hot in Tulsa (as you can see from the sweat on my brow in a few of these pics  🙁   ) and there is a dancing frog in the background of a few of these pics (sister is still learning how to use Photoshop and learn the value of the “blur tool” – stay tuned).

mixology – …..the art and craft of mixing. Well, my friends, pattern mixing seems to have  become an “art form” and craft in the fashion world lately; am I wrong?!   I have to admit; I was a little nervous to try out this trend for myself.  I am one of those people who isn’t always able to successfully pull off each trend that pops up. So, when it came to this challenge I decided that in order to do this successfully in my first attempt, that I had to follow these rules:

1.  Make sure to have clean contrast

2.  Use two different prints in the same color family (this is more of a “beginner” rule – once you feel more comfortable, you can move into more dangerous territory with contrasting colors)

3.  Pull the two contrasting prints together with a pop of color

What do you think? I had a lot of fun in my first attempt in “mixology”! I definitely think this is a trend I will rock in the  fall!

Have you tried this trend? What are your “rules” for successful pattern mixing?

Outfit Details:  Top – Nasty Gal , Necklace – Forever 21, Boyfriend Jeans – Old Navy (lusting big time over THESE ), Wedges – Payless (my eye is on THIS cute, chic and affordable pair right now), Bag – Express, Aviator Sunnies – ASOS , Bracelets – Forever 21

Yes,  summer is almost over. I definitely won’t miss the triple digit temps or the humidity. What I will miss is getting to sport great summer looks like the above.  A delicate  sleeveless blouse, a great pair of boyfriend jeans and a pair of wedges – the perfect “summer uniform” in my opinion.

While I definitely plan on “working” my boyfriend jeans for fall, I will definitely be missing great wedges and fantastic tops like the one I’m wearing here. When I saw this top on the Nasty Gal website I was in LOOOVE ! It’s delicate and “all business” in the front, but is ” a party in the back” with a sexy open back.  In other news, I’m loving my new aviator sunnies from ASOS!  Know what? They actually make me think of  THIS SONG  (I can hear you laughing at the lameness of my joke here…..oh well! )    😉

What pieces from your summer wardrobe will you miss this fall?

Saturday evening was spent grabbing drinks with girlfriends at one of my favorite restaurants in Tulsa, The Blue Rose Cafe. What is so great about this place is it has an AWESOME outdoor patio area, a great outdoor bar and an even more amazing view overlooking the Arkansas River. By the time we got to the restaurant it was was sunset and the view was breathtaking. Before dinner and drinks we stopped down by the river docks to take in the view and beautiful sunset.  I decided to take advantage of this amazing backdrop and snap a few pics!

I decided to take my new boyfriend jeans out for a spin.  If I were told to name the perfect pair of jeans for summer, these would be it! Boyfriend jeans not only are crazy comfortable, but with their distressed look, are so easy to style. They add a great edge to a more feminine look and are an essential element to any great “casual chic” look.  You can wear them with heels, a great wedge or even flats and you’ll always look great! Boyfriend jeans are definitely and always will be an essential staple in my wardrobe!

How do you like to rock boyfriend jeans?

Let me tell you a story. There once was a necklace, a necklace like no other. It was full of sparkle, had a funky edge and was  incredibly unique. One day it came into the sight of a girl; a girl who LOVES accessories —- to say the very least. When this girl’s sight came upon this necklace in all it’s awesomeness and funkiness, she zoomed in on it and grabbed it quicker than…well…I don’t know what (insert you own sarcastic comment here); let’s just say it was CRAZY ass fast!  😉

All was well with the world again.

This necklace, as you can see above, is my latest find from The Limited. I can’t say enough about this necklace and how much I love it. It literally seems to go with EVERYTHING in my closet.  Definitely expect to see this piece make an appearance in many more an outfit post here on the blog. I can’t wait to find an entirely new and different way to style it! Stay tuned!

Do you have a statement piece that you are obsessed with?

Remember when you were a kid and running through the sprinklers during the summer? It was simple fun, but oh so satisfying, especially during the sweltering heat. Well, a park downtown in my city has a “version” of this so to speak and I have to say – it took every ounce of will power I had not to run through the water myself,  as this particular day, it was 105 degrees! This downtown “water attraction” also kind of reminded me of Centennial Olympic park in downtown Atlanta (my hometown), where there is a whole section of the park full of little “water spouts” and if you’re a kid, it is THE PLACE TO BE during the summer.

Childhood summer memories aside, on a day that was as hot as this Saturday was, nothing will do except for minimal clothing, i.e. shorts and a sleeveless shirt. I decided to pull out one of my favorite mint flowy tops and pair it with a pair of denim shorts (my own and very first DIY project) . I then decided to add that essential bit of “glam”  and polish my look  with my favorite pair of metallic silver mary jane wedges from ASOS ( these babies have been getting a great run on the blog lately – seen here , here and here) and a little bit of wrist candy.

How are you “beating the heat” fashionably?
