Outfit Details:  top – lane bryant, skinny jeans – old navy, shoes – asos, necklace – kohl’s, ring – gift from father, bracelets & watch – forever 21

Welcome to my first outfit post of 2013! I just realized that it’s been almost a month since my last outfit post! Eeeek! Regarding the name of this particular post, I named it “Ice Princess” for two reasons – first, it was COOOLD while shooting and I almost froze into an ice cube and secondly, I’m wearing my favorite piece of “ice”, this awesome shiny rhinestone necklace from Kohl’s.  I seriously cannot seem to take it off!

This outfit definitely includes two of my favorite things: polka dots and bling! I love the accent of blue polka dots in this top.  I decided to keep the rest of the outfit fairly simple, aside from the great accents of bling with this necklace and my favorite sapphire and diamond ring that my dear father gave me for Christmas a few years ago.

Well, so far we’re 10 days into the new year, and I have to say, it hasn’t been too bad so far. I am excited for this year and think great things will be happening!   🙂

This outfit is yet another example of two pieces I never thought would work together – sequins and tweed. Just like plaid, I never thought tweed would be something I’d wear or anything that would work for me. Honestly, I always saw tweed, up until recently, as something that women much older than I would wear…like my grandmother!

But, alas, just like I found that plaid isn’t just for lumberjacks, tweed is not just for my grandmother. When styled creatively, it can be oh so chic! After finding tons of inspiration HERE, I braved it and went out and bought my very first tweed blazer. The really cool thing about this particular blazer is that is a “distressed” tweed! So, like my favorite pair of ripped boyfriend jeans, it does the job, but will a  little bit of edge!

What do you think? Would you wear tweed this season?

Who said you can’t wear a pair of distressed and ripped boyfriend jeans with a tailored blazer? No one that I know of! I love playing “opposites attract” with my looks. I decided to keep in the same color family with the top I wore underneath my blazer, but as you can see, I definitely didn’t when it came to my bag! It’s always fun to add in an unexpected pop of color!

In other news – I’ve rediscovered a love for loafers! How cute are my Nine West heeled loafers?  😉

How do you like to play “opposites attract” with your looks?

Outfit Details:  top – tjmaxx (old) (love this option for the holidays) , boyfriend jeans – asos curve (similar) , stilettos – charolette russe , bracelets – forever 21 (similar options HERE on sale! )

Sequins for life. I’m completely fine living by that motto considering how much I LOVE anything of the shiny or sparkly variety. Well, it’s the holiday season and with that  comes the sequins and shine. I mean really, I couldn’t imagine the holidays without a little shine!

Anyway, this is the look I wore to a local event in downtown Tulsa. The event was called #Tweet4toys and was held by a great meetup group I’m a part of called Social Media Tulsa. If you’re in Tulsa you SERIOUSLY need to check them out! The event was held at the beautiful and historic Mayo Hotel on their breathtakingly awesome penthouse rooftop bar. The downtown skyline views were AMAZING, the drinks were great and the best part – thanks to toy donations brought that night, many children will have a happier Christmas this year thanks to Salvation Army!

So, in conclusion, I think we can say that sequins are appropriate for any occasion! 🙂

I am a true believer that a girl needs her sparkle; no matter what the season. Fall is almost over, the temperatures are dropping ( I almost froze to death during this shoot – can you tell?) and Christmas is practically here already! Let’s face it folks – old man winter is knocking on our door.  Like I said though, a girl needs her sparkle; even in the winter.

I honestly can’t even remember the last time that I wore this sweater. However, it was like finding hidden treasure finding it in the back of my closet. Want to know the best part? This little sweater is adorned in sequins! Yes, subtle as they are, there are sequins! What does one do when wearing a sequined adorned sweater? Add more sparkle to the look (naturally) of course!

How are you going to “get your sparkle on” this winter?

Fun. Fashion should always be fun, don’t you think? This very reason is why I am so in love with all of the quirky and fun prints and graphic tees, sweaters and sweatshirts that have been popping up like crazy so far this season (more on that HERE)! Think about this for a moment. If you walk out the door wearing a t-shirt that says “Holy Chic” or a slouchy sweater with a huge cat face in glasses on it, how can you have a bad day?  😉

Furthermore, I love how these fun casual pieces are being paired with more formal pieces like pencil skirts, blazers and slacks.  However, sometimes on a Sunday you just want to go the causal route, like you see I did above. When I laid my eyes on this tee in the store and saw that it said “Glam Up” in sequins no less,  I knew it was meant for me! I mean come on, my blog is named Glam Slam!  Duh! Of course I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t jazz things up a bit, so I added my favorite (yes, my favorite, as you can see here and here) pair of leopard print heels. Fun fashion!

How do you like to jazz up a casual outfit?

A blazer and boyfriend jeans is such an easy way to achieve a classic, classy and chic look; a favorite in my book. A pairing like this is one of many ways I’m finding to bring my boyfriend jeans, one of my summer staples, into fall. Another combo I’m loving? Plum and oxblood. I don’t know about you, but to me it almost seems like they were meant to be paired together. I kept it simple here by bringing out the oxblood color subtly through my bracelet and lip color.

Beware though my friends – this is just beginning of what I believe will be a beautiful color pairing for fall!

What are some fall colors you’re loving paired together?

What is it about houndstooth that makes it such a great print? Is it the fact that it’s lady-like vibe reminds you of a vintage Chanel blazer that the Queen herself might wear to afternoon tea? Is it the fact that it adds just the right amount of punch to make even the simplest of outfits make a statement? I myself am not even quite sure, but, all I know is that I love it!

Houndstooth has always been one of my absolute favorite prints. I love the fact that just like leopard print or any other funky print it jazzes up even some of your simplest pieces. I’ve had this coat for several years now and love it so much that I swear I’ll probably wear it until it’s threadbare! Of course now I naturally have to go out in search of some other great pieces bearing this fabulous print to add to my collection!  😉

What do you think of houndstooth? Would you rock this print?

Saturday I had a fabulous afternoon at Saks Fifth Avenue Tulsa! The one and only Lindsay Rogers, a.k.a. @bellebellebeau , held a beauty brunch event. It was  great time! We sipped on mimosas while listening to Lindsay teach us about the latest and great in fall beauty and make-up trends. Accompanying Lindsay was Amanda Viles, a.k.a. @AChic , Marketing Director for Saks Tulsa. Amanda discussed with attendees how to accompany fall’s beauty trends with the season’s current fashion trends.

It truly was a great afternoon of beauty and fashion. What more could a girl I ask for?

To see some pics snapped at the event, click HERE!

So, since I knew I was going to a place like Saks, of course an important question is what to wear?! 😉  Since we’re still basically in a transition period between seasons, I’m currently discovering and experimenting on ways to bring some of my summer pieces into fall.

So, one of my favorite summer staples, my boyfriend jeans, were my first challenge. One idea I had already was  pairing my boyfriend jeans this fall with a slouchy sweater or jacket and heels; I decided to keep with that same idea.  I paired my jeans with my FAVORITE pair of Nine West leopard print heels (last seen here and here), a simple black sleeveless blouse and long and hot red blazer (last seen here). To polish it off I added a great statement necklace and bracelet and a funky studded and spiked clutch.

I find it lots of fun jazzing up simple pieces and wardrobe staples with statement accessories! So many options.

What do you think of the final result? How are you bringing some of your favorite summer pieces into fall?

UNTIL NEXT TIME!!!
