It’s me…my style…my way.

Rockstars and Sequins

Outfit Details: sequined top – old navy , Rockstar boot cut skinny jeans – old navy , cardigan – kohl’s , heels – DSW , necklace – unknown (old) (last seen here ) , owl ring – old navy , sunnies – Michael Kors (similar )

Rockstars and sequins. Those two words pretty much sum up this outfit. The sequin part of the aforementioned statement of course is obvious (we’ll get to that later), but the rock star part might leave you wondering. Well my lovelies, let me introduce my fabulous Old Navy Rock Star jeans! When I saw they are fabulous, I mean it people! They fit like a glove, are uber comfortable and the boot cut cut on them is perfect for fall!

Now let’s talk about the sequin part of this “outfit equation.” I have say – I think I have been pretty successful so far in making it abundantly clear here on the blog  my affinity for all that is sparkly, shiny, and especially sequined. This being said, when I saw this top at my local Old Navy, the “bug lamp” that is my obsession with all sparkly and shiny things “buzzed” quite loudly, resulting in my purchase. Now, with sequins you can always go the fancy and more formal route (which I LOVE), but you can also dress them down and go for a more “casual chic” look. “Casual Chic” definitely was the name of the game here, and I love how it all came together.

How do you like to style sequins? Is the traditional fancy your way to go or is “casual chic” more your cup of tea?

Glam Up

Outfit Details: top – express (old)  (loving this and this too), skinny jeans –  asos curve (similar), heels – Nine West , bag – express , bracelets – forever21

Fun. Fashion should always be fun, don’t you think? This very reason is why I am so in love with all of the quirky and fun prints and graphic tees, sweaters and sweatshirts that have been popping up like crazy so far this season (more on that HERE)! Think about this for a moment. If you walk out the door wearing a t-shirt that says “Holy Chic” or a slouchy sweater with a huge cat face in glasses on it, how can you have a bad day?  😉

Furthermore, I love how these fun casual pieces are being paired with more formal pieces like pencil skirts, blazers and slacks.  However, sometimes on a Sunday you just want to go the causal route, like you see I did above. When I laid my eyes on this tee in the store and saw that it said “Glam Up” in sequins no less,  I knew it was meant for me! I mean come on, my blog is named Glam Slam!  Duh! Of course I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t jazz things up a bit, so I added my favorite (yes, my favorite, as you can see here and here) pair of leopard print heels. Fun fashion!

How do you like to jazz up a casual outfit?

The Color Purple

Not quite sure what I’m doing in this picture! LOL! 😉

Outfit Details:  blazer – kohl’s , top – express (old) , boyfriend jeans – asos curve , heels – franco sarto (similar), aviators – asos , bracelet – kohl’s , ring – the limited

A blazer and boyfriend jeans is such an easy way to achieve a classic, classy and chic look; a favorite in my book. A pairing like this is one of many ways I’m finding to bring my boyfriend jeans, one of my summer staples, into fall. Another combo I’m loving? Plum and oxblood. I don’t know about you, but to me it almost seems like they were meant to be paired together. I kept it simple here by bringing out the oxblood color subtly through my bracelet and lip color.

Beware though my friends – this is just beginning of what I believe will be a beautiful color pairing for fall!

What are some fall colors you’re loving paired together?

Like my look? I’ve been doing some shopping lately and have found some great fall pieces! Take a look!

What is it about houndstooth that makes it such a great print? Is it the fact that it’s lady-like vibe reminds you of a vintage Chanel blazer that the Queen herself might wear to afternoon tea? Is it the fact that it adds just the right amount of punch to make even the simplest of outfits make a statement? I myself am not even quite sure, but, all I know is that I love it!

Houndstooth has always been one of my absolute favorite prints. I love the fact that just like leopard print or any other funky print it jazzes up even some of your simplest pieces. I’ve had this coat for several years now and love it so much that I swear I’ll probably wear it until it’s threadbare! Of course now I naturally have to go out in search of some other great pieces bearing this fabulous print to add to my collection!  😉

What do you think of houndstooth? Would you rock this print?

An Afternoon at Saks

Outfit Details:  long blazer (obsessed with THIS one) – target, top – Ann Taylor Loft (old), boyfriend jeans – old navy (similar), heels – nine west, bracelet – kohl’s, necklace – the limited (this one is also cute), clutch – thrifted, ring – the limited

Saturday I had a fabulous afternoon at Saks Fifth Avenue Tulsa! The one and only Lindsay Rogers, a.k.a. @bellebellebeau , held a beauty brunch event. It was  great time! We sipped on mimosas while listening to Lindsay teach us about the latest and great in fall beauty and make-up trends. Accompanying Lindsay was Amanda Viles, a.k.a. @AChic , Marketing Director for Saks Tulsa. Amanda discussed with attendees how to accompany fall’s beauty trends with the season’s current fashion trends.

It truly was a great afternoon of beauty and fashion. What more could a girl I ask for?

So, since I knew I was going to a place like Saks, of course an important question is what to wear?! 😉  Since we’re still basically in a transition period between seasons, I’m currently discovering and experimenting on ways to bring some of my summer pieces into fall.

So, one of my favorite summer staples, my boyfriend jeans, were my first challenge. One idea I had already was  pairing my boyfriend jeans this fall with a slouchy sweater or jacket and heels; I decided to keep with that same idea.  I paired my jeans with my FAVORITE pair of Nine West leopard print heels (last seen here and here), a simple black sleeveless blouse and long and hot red blazer (last seen here). To polish it off I added a great statement necklace and bracelet and a funky studded and spiked clutch.

I find it lots of fun jazzing up simple pieces and wardrobe staples with statement accessories! So many options.

What do you think of the final result? How are you bringing some of your favorite summer pieces into fall?

Season of the Ox

Outfit Details – top – ASOS, pants – Lane Bryant, heels – Nine West, clutch – Express, bracelets – Forever 21 & Kohl’s (similar), ring – The Limited (similar)

You’ve heard of The Year of the Ox in Chinese mythology, right? Well, my dears, it is now “The Season of the Ox”! OxBlood all of a sudden has become THE color of the season. Call it burgundy, maroon, brownish-redish, whatever you will, but it is hot! So, when I found out that the current Bloggers Do It Better challenge was “OxBlood”, I was stoked!

Honestly, when I think of the changing of the seasons, leaves changing colors, grabbing that pumpkin spiece latte from Starbucks and what epitomizes fall to me, this color definitely fits the bill.  It’s  rich, dramatic, fun and easy to wear and can instantly add a touch of elegance to an outfit, while at the same time being a bit edgy; depending on how you choose to style it.

Here I paired my ASOS oxblood top with a pair of grey slacks, my favorite pair of leopard print heels for a touch funk and edge and went with jeweled and gold accessories. However, this could have just as easily been pair with a pair of boyfriend jeans and heels for a more casual look. I am definitley going to have fun styling this great hue in different ways and adding more pieces to my fall wardrobe!

I couldn’t think of anything more perfect for my first fall outfit post of the year on the blog!

For the Love of Leo

Outfit Details:  top – The Limited, necklace – The Limited, boyfriend jeans – ASOS, heels – Nine West, bracelet – forever21, ring – The Limited, nails – Essie “Stylenomics”

OK, honest time here – this by far is not my best outfit post.  It was gloomy and about to rain, I forgot to charge my camera and then my camera died in the middle of taking pics, so……here is the result! I was hesitant whether or not to even post this “shoot’, but, I couldn’t resist – I had to share my obsession with my absolutely amazing and favorite new pair of leopard print heels! Mark my words, you WILL be seeing these heels pop up very often on the blog!

I can’t get enough of the leopard print trend we have going on right now! Leopard is so fun, chic and easy to style! I formerly was a strictly zebra print-only gal, but, as you can tell from my Instagram feed, I am an official convert! Here I wore my heels with a pair of boyfriend jeans, a statement necklace and blouse; “casual chic”. But, these heels practically pair with everything in my closet. They are easy and fun to dress down (as you see here) but can just as easily pair with a great pencil skirt or pair of slacks for a more formal look!

So, once again, please excuse this particular outfit post. Next time I promise to   1) charge my camera    2)  not shoot when it’s raining !    😉

Outfit Details:  top – forever21 (last seen here), boyfriend jeans – old navy (these are equally as awesome), necklace – express, aviator sunnies – asos, clutch –  , heels – charlotte russe, bracelets – forever21 & ida red boutique tulsa, ring – forever21 (I think this one will be my next purchase), nail polish – essie ” missy fancy pants” .

Just so you know….I’m a Killer! Well, I wear killer stilettos sometimes when I’m feeling daring and a little fierce.  😉   If these aren’t what you’d call killer stilettos, then I don’t know what is, right?  I make no effort to hide the fact that I LOVE heels; I’m definitely not a flats girl. However, when I saw these babies in the store, at first I thought they may be too much even for me to handle (if you can believe that!). Once I tried them on, felt them on my feet and took a few struts (yes, I strut not walk in heels), I knew they had to be mine.

Aside from the ridiculously awesome heel on these little gals, I love the ankle strap and little bow at the ankle; I think it makes them fun and unique. There’s just something about an ankle strap heel that just goes so perfectly with boyfriend jeans.

In other news, it is still freakin’ hot in Tulsa (as you can see from the sweat on my brow in a few of these pics  🙁   ) and there is a dancing frog in the background of a few of these pics (sister is still learning how to use Photoshop and learn the value of the “blur tool” – stay tuned).

mixology – …..the art and craft of mixing. Well, my friends, pattern mixing seems to have  become an “art form” and craft in the fashion world lately; am I wrong?!   I have to admit; I was a little nervous to try out this trend for myself.  I am one of those people who isn’t always able to successfully pull off each trend that pops up. So, when it came to this challenge I decided that in order to do this successfully in my first attempt, that I had to follow these rules:

1.  Make sure to have clean contrast

2.  Use two different prints in the same color family (this is more of a “beginner” rule – once you feel more comfortable, you can move into more dangerous territory with contrasting colors)

3.  Pull the two contrasting prints together with a pop of color

What do you think? I had a lot of fun in my first attempt in “mixology”! I definitely think this is a trend I will rock in the  fall!

Have you tried this trend? What are your “rules” for successful pattern mixing?
