Pink may not be your favorite color, but, I’m sure you are aware of the significance of the color during the month of October. I’m sure you’re already critically aware of the importance of raising awareness and raising money to help in the fight against the most invasive cancer a woman can experience. I’m sure you know a lot of things about Breast Cancer Awareness Month and why the cause is so important.
Here’s what you may not know:
- More than 85% of women with breast cancer had no family history of the disease
- Nearly 2,100 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in men, with 450 dying from the disease
- Research shows that women are more fearful of breast cancer than any other cancer, despite the fact that heart disease is the number one killer of women.
- 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t care how old you are, what you’ve experienced in life or still have to experience in life. It doesn’t care if you’ve overcome obstacles in life or if you are just starting out. It is brutal and unforgiving.
It takes lives and changes the lives of those who have lost or watched someone battle it forever. It is pain, it is dark and it is a killer. I’ve lost many people dear to me to cancer and my heart still aches from the pain. As a child, I watched one of my friends experience pain I couldn’t even begin to comprehend at the time after losing her mother to breast cancer.
You never know how to comfort someone sometimes that has lost so much. You want to do something to help in the battle against something so formidable, but, don’t’ know where to start.
I really wanted to contribute in my own way to this fight and raising cancer awareness, but, didn’t know where to start either. As a blogger, I find it truly gratifying when I can use what influence I have to give back or spread awareness about important causes dear to my heart. This year I am so happy to announce that I am partnering with with Shopstyle Collective and CFDA for their breast cancer awareness campaign this month. Myself and many other Shopstyle Collective bloggers are partnering together with Fashion Targets Breast Cancer and donating 10% of any commissions earned to the campaign!
FTBC is a charitable initiative of the CFDA Foundation and for 22 years has been raising awareness and raising millions to help in the battle against breast cancer. POPSUGAR Inc. will be separately making a $5,000 donation and will additionally match all participating ShopStyle Collective bloggers donations $1 for $1, for a total POPSUGAR Inc. donation of $10,000!

Note to self: if you are looking for anything pink, Kate Spade is your girl! 😉
Whether you chose to do a little shopping to donate to and support the cause, you rock that breast cancer pink ribbon or you chose to donate your time with a local charity or organization (here in Tulsa I love supporting Turn Tulsa Pink), please do something. You have no idea how much your support means to those in need!
