Have you ever had a moment in your life where you have to pinch yourself to see if what is happening in front of you is REALLY happening? Well, I had one of those moments recently. My “pinch me” moment was when I…..Stephanie Carper….met Betsey Johnson!
I for years have loved…..I mean LOVED Betsey Johnson. She is uber talented, has more energy than people more than half her age and has a brand so full of life, so energetic and so unique, that I just can’t seem to ever get enough of it. I mean come on, a 72 year old woman who has spiky bleached blond hair, a fun and punky “ageless”style and does cartwheels on the runway at Fashion Week?! What’s not to like?
A few weeks ago, Betsey was on a nation-wide tour for her new line at Dillards, and lucky for me, she just so happened to have Tulsa on her tour stop! The scene was nothing less than what I imagined a Betsey Johnson event to be. Dancing and singing models wearing neon blue and pink rhinestone cowgirl hats, her latest unique, girly and funky pieces on display, a DJ spinning crazy music, pink rose petals covering the floor and of course the woman herself making it all come together.
Oh, and did I forget to mention the whole soiree was hosted by one of the craziest, funniest and most eclectic men I think I’ve ever met? If you don’t know his name you should; the one and only Micah Jesse played MC and let’s be real here – anyone who knows by heart all the words to Prince’s “Kiss“, and has the confidence to sing and dance to it live in front of an audience, is a very cool human being in my book!
The line to meet Betsey that day was ridiculously long, but was more than worth the wait! Meeting such an icon is something I will never forget (sad fact alert: I somehow accidentally deleted the picture of Betsey and I while downloading pictures for this post! *MAJOR, MAJOR face palm*). Deleted picture aside, this was a great event and I am so incredibly happy I was lucky enough to experience it.
